These fibrous pads work well if you are looking for a medium to make sprouts or grow microgreens. They don’t have enough substance to really grow plants long-term, unless you lift the whole pad with the seedlings and place it in soil. If you are doing this, it would need to be a hardy enough plant to get through the fibers as the stem expands. They are easy to cut with scissors and they absorb moisture fairly well, and they let small roots pass through so you can water from underneath instead of overhead. If you leave them in a humid area without a lot of air circulation, they seem to get mildewy, so these are not the best for propagating seeds in a baggie. Better for countertop use. In fact it is ideal for use indoors because it doesn’t contain any fungus gnats or other critters that sometimes are in the bags of soil from the plant nursery. These are good for beginners because they are quick and easy.
